Bamboo Scaffolding

One of my memories of Hong Kong Central District was watching the men build huge bamboo scaffolding up the sides of buildings. They often then clad it with plastic and I recall watching as one caught fire and burnt all afternoon just opposite what was then Swire House. Very difficult to extinguish and they just had to let it burn out.

This video is obviously more recent than the 1970’s and although I’m sure they were as far off the ground as these guys they didn’t wear hard hats in those days. Mind you if you see how high they are I can’t see what  a hard hat is going to achieve?
