Acknowledgements – The Hong Kong Circle

My research material was widespread but I relied very heavily on two excellent books which recount the history of Hong Kong during 1941–45:

The Battle for Hong Kong by Oliver Lindsay

The Fall of Hong Kong by Philip Snow

Any reader whose interest is aroused by this novel will find both books to be a mine of information.

Jean Gittens wrote Stanley: Behind Barbed Wire which gave me an insight into life for the expatriates interred in this little town.

Although AutoCrit continued to demonstrate how useful it is to correct a multitude of my errors, thanks to my editor Ian Jackson for tidying up the final document, cover designer Bradley Wind, and web designers cannedSunlight.

Thanks to my fiercest critics: My wife, Jo, and my daughter, Diana. Also to Dorothy, my mother-in-law, now sadly passed.
