Spanish Politicians

In 2013 it was reported there are nearly 450,000 politicians in Spain. The population of Spain is 47 million

In the same year there were apparently less than 150,000 politicians in Germany. The population of Germany is 80 million

How incredible is that?

Spain has 60% of the population and three times the number of politicians.

So

Which is the more prosperous, successful  and better run country?

No need to answer.

Who are the only people who can reduce the number of politicians?

Umm tough one!

Is it politicians?.

So is it likely to happen?

Probably not.

This situation is a throwback to Franco’s days coupled with the setting up of large administrative regions such as Valencia, Cataluña etc. and the abundance of cities, towns and villages all of whom need their own councils and of course politicians.

And where does the main area of corruption continue to reside in Spain?

Guess?

In 2014 there were more than 400 politicians suspected or in court suspected of corruption

A reason why I feel sad for the lovely Spanish people.

However since then politics have changed, and although corruption is still a huge problem, some improvements have been made, and most, but not all, politicians now think twice before granting favours for cash.
