Junks – the old workhorse of Hong Kong

One of the most colourful sights in Hong Kong is the junk. Sadly there are far less these days but in the 1970’s there were plenty still moving cargo or fishing.

I’ve included here some photos of junks but start with my favourite provider of old films, Michael Rogge, who shows us being on board on a working junk in the 1950’s

and entering Hong Kong harbour in 1960. It was fantastic when I lived there but 15 years earlier even more beautiful and exciting
