Henderson’s masterful storytelling and attention to detail bring the city to life, from its bustling streets to its shadowy underworld.
The narrative follows a diverse cast of characters whose lives intersect in unexpected ways, from Joseph, a young man eager to follow in his father’s footsteps within the Sung Triad Society, to Irina, a Russian refugee struggling to survive in a foreign land. Each character is meticulously crafted, with their own motivations, flaws, and desires, making them both relatable and compelling.
One of the standout aspects of the book is its exploration of power dynamics and moral ambiguity.
